More Atmos MP-10 Convoys incoming – End of days

Only three days late with this bombshell – photo by @ldn2hk on instagram

You’d think things like this wouldn’t get past the Transformers fandom, but alas, there’s leaks in the ship. Three days ago, SEVENTY-TWO HOURS, an event in Japan rocked the sneakerhead nation: Atmos Con Vol. 6. Like usually with these shoe / toy crossovers, it happened in Japan and it seems like literally no one is around to figure out any details that can be translated into English.

The only reason I even stumbled upon this was by finding this video recap of the event on the @atmos_tokyo Instagram page which features some quick shots of before un-seen MP-10 shoe redecos. Oy vey.

Uploaded by yours truly

So let’s do a count of how many of these there are so far:

  • Elephant Convoy – Revealed at Wonderfest 2019
  • Viotech Convoy – Revealed at Wonderfest 2019
  • Duck Camo Convoy – Seen at Wonderfest 2019
  • MP-10ASL (Atmos Safari LeBron Ver.) – released March 2, 2019
  • Tiger Camo Convoy – revealed at Atmos Con Vol. 6 on March 10, 2019
  • Animal Convoy – revealed at Atmos Con Vol. 6 on March 10, 2019
Elephant is still out there – photo by @ldn2hk on instagram

So what does this mean for would be MP-10 completists? Well, the game just got more complicated and you better start saving up! These are going to be some of the most difficult to acquire Transformers of all time. This is my prediction since there’s still zero to almost negative amounts of information on these and they just keep popping up like weeds!

Edit: Originally we incorrectly named Animal Convoy as Tiger Camo Convoy (Yellow) and Tiger Camo Convoy listed as Tiger Camo Convoy (Black).

Master-peace? – MP-10ASL Convoy (Atmos Safari Lebron Ver.) scores a three

He shoots, he scores!!!!!!

Welcome to the new world of Transformers Masterpiece collecting. If you thought Bapes were a scourge, if you couldn’t believe MP-44’s retail price was over $400, if you thought Ghostbusters x Transformers Masterpiece toys were just hogwash… well I have three words for you bucko:

Earlier this year, we were treated to incredible mock-ups of MP-10 Masterpiece Convoy at Wonderfest 2019. These crazy decos were billed as some kind of Atmos x Transformers collaboration. It was very difficult to find any details about these as far as their authenticity or expectations of mass release. The general consensus is that one or more of these figures MIGHT see a wide release or one of the decos may see a limited run in Japan, similar to the Bape crossover figures.

Well, my fellow Collecticons, today brings us even more news. The first official Atmos crossover with Transformers goes on sale March 2nd in Japan along with the NIKE LEBRON XVI LOW “SAFARI” shoes. See for yourself at Atmos Japan.

The man, the myth, the machine.

“OH MY GOD!!! HOW DO I GET IT?!”

Well, there’s not a ton of info yet, since I’ve never attempted to purchase from the Atmos Japan store living in the states, but I’m working hard to get the details. Here’s what we know:

  • It’s being released on Saturday March 2nd, 2019 in Japan. No time is mentioned but apparently the stores open at 11 AM Tokyo JST (I’ll just do the math for your lazy asses and tell you the stores open March 1st, 8 PM CST)
  • The MP-10ASL Convoy will be available in-person at Atmos Japan stores for ¥20,000 + tax (approx $181). No word yet on if it will be available on their webstore or not, but there may be hope. These are the stores that open at 11 AM JST.
  • If you want to prepare for the online sales rush, you might want to create an account on Atmos Japan. Good luck!
  • The shoes will be available online for ¥17,500 + tax but it’s likely to be a very busy time on the site. Here is the site, no specific link for the products is currently available as of this posting.
  • The shoes, but sadly not the action figure, will be available in the USA on March 2nd at 10 AM EST at regular sneakerhead outlets and Nike.com. Price is $175 + tax.

So there you have it. If this is any indication for what’s next, we are likely to see a LOT of reuses of the MP-10 mold for these shoe collaborations. Good luck Collecticons, and hopefully this doesn’t make those completists out there say “Master-peace!” if they haven’t already.

MP-10ASL Convoy will be available while supplies last at Collecticon.toys but expect a heavy after-market mark-up!

Ant-man and Waspinator – Starring Paul Rudd and Scott McNeil

Ant-man and Waspinator parody movie poster

Most dynamic of duos

So I got a great idea the other day: With all this hoopla over this Ant-man and The Wasp movie poster, I decided the time was right for me to unleash the movie Transformers Fans really wanted. So now our boy in green has a chance to get on the Marvel scene.

The post was shared on Reddit and the FB Bot-posting page but know that this is the source. This is a Collecticon original! Who knows, maybe even RIPT Apparel will make a pass at this idea… a girl can dream can’t she?

Transformers: Bumblebee is not a reboot so stop calling it that – The hype train has left the station

Transformers bumblebee trailer jeep robot

“Sweet boy”

The first non-sequential entry into the Transformers film franchise finally dropped a trailer to the chagrin of Transfans across the globe. At around 2:00 AM CST on Tuesday June 5th, 2018, the world breathed a sigh of relief, shed some tears, and history was made. The collective internet at large unanimously agreed the trailer was good, and not the train wreck everyone was expecting after the previous entries into this movie franchise.

Transformers Bumblebee trailer honeycomb bees

Sweet

It’s not just fans taking to social media in bee swarms, it’s the regular press too.  With headlines like “Bumblebee Movie Shows The True Potential of a transformers movie” and “Is It Weird That the Bumblebee Trailer Made Me Tear Up a Little Bit?“, it’s clear that something no one expected is gaining steam. The only person that should be ashamed of this complete 180 is director Michael Bay who has spent the last 10 years brushing off the criticism of his work with the arrogance of a school yard bully. Now that we have an actual creative story-teller in the director’s chair instead of a dime-a-dozen commercial director that some how got a big break where 100’s didn’t, the world can finally be treated to the wonder and bewilderment that thousands of Transformers fans already knew the brand possessed.

Oh, and Ryan Roschke, the answer is no, no it’s not weird. I’ll admit that I too teared up (although I really blame the excellent musical direction of the trailer) when I watched this trailer for the first time in the early morning hours of Tuesday. It was as if for the first time since early 2006 that all the abuse I had withstood, all the disappointment, all the ridicule had been worth it and was finally over. I, no we, had persevered and miraculously been rewarded. We just never expected our savior to be Bumblebee.

Non-angry-eyes Autobots are back in style!

I have to applaud the team at Hasbro and the cohesive vision of Travis Knight for being patient and not jumping the gun to share this film. Originally the Bumblebee movie was supposed to have been released during this current Summer’s blockbuster season, like every other Transformers film, but all that changed when Solo: A Star Wars Story, flipped the script and moved from a Christmas release to a summer release. Thanks Disney, you opened the door for success; a mistake they are not likely to make again. This, of course, has wrecked havoc upon Hasbro’s toy release schedule, creating a rarely seen dry-spell for new product moving into the summer months. The Bumblebee Movie toyline was meant to drop along side the current Movie Studio Series line, but plans had to change when the Transformers movie franchise was cancelled and Bumblebee was pushed back almost 6 months. This has also caused a real problem with distribution of Power of the Primes wave 2 and 3.  Oops. Well, it’s nice to see that the struggle was worth it.

Nerds rejoice: robot kibble is now canon!

So amongst all this excitement for the trailer is a whole bucket of confusion. The confusion stems from the terms “reboot” being thrown around haphazardly by official sources. Here are the facts:

  • The Transformers Movie franchise has been cancelled since Transformers 7 is no longer on Paramount’s release schedule.
  • The Bumblebee movie was originally considered Transformers 6. It was and still is set in the only Transformers movie universe that exists since the entire thing was written and produced under the context of it fitting in this universe.
  • The setting of the Bumblebee movie is the 1980’s, which now according to the chronology of the films sets it between the time when Bumblebee fought in World War II (The Last Knight) and when Bumblebee first interacts with Sam Witwicky (Transformers).
  • The last time the Transformers film officials used the word reboot, they had a fundamental lack of understanding what that word fucking means. So just forget that word exists in the context of the Transformers films right now.

The Transformers universe is going to get rebooted… at some point.  This is why a new film is not on the books until 2020+. Giving potential new creators this much time to let Transformers simmer on the general public seems like a really great way to give some breathing room to the franchise. Hasbro’s teams will be able to work with movie production creative teams a bit more closely and in a timely matter. Toylines that are successful take a lot more time than anyone thinks. The real wrench in the plan right now is this Bumblebee movie. It’s looking to me like it is going to destroy expectations and probably have one of the best opening weekends of all the Transformers films. If that prediction is true, I fear for what this means to Paramount & Hasbro’s best laid plans. If anything, I pray that they stick to their guns and use this Bumblebee film as an example of how to do it right as they move into a new paradigm for Transformers film-making and story-telling. My biggest fear is that this movie does so gang-busters that everyone up top can’t bear to let the franchise go and will suddenly fire up the Transformers 7 machine, and Bay will be back in the driver’s seat.  He still has an executive producer credit attached to this film so his ego has melted into a puddle just yet.

transformers bumblebee trailer Hailee

I give it a ten!

Let’s also not forget about the star power in this movie. John Cena is in everything now, and he draws a crowd! Just look at Froggy Fresh spit sick rhymes about his favorite wrestler years ago. His fame has only gone even more bonkers since. Then there’s God’s gift to the world, Hailee Steinfeld. This girl does not quit. She can sing, she can act, and she’s generally the #1 girl next door on planet Earth. If Megan Fox is the kind of woman you cheat on your wife with, Hailee is the type of girl you cheat off her tests in math class. She’s an A+ student and this movie is going to propel her to super stardom so she can rub elbows with the ‘it’ girl of yesteryear like Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence.

Transformers bumblebee trailer starscream animated GIF

The flyboy we’ve all been waiting for

Oh, and of course we can’t forget this guy. Bumblebee wasn’t the only A-list Transformer scouring Earth for the All Spark, oh no. Starscream has been holding it down just as long and we’re finally seeing him before his couch potato days as a Dorito. God speed you vain, scrupulous seeker you. It’s amazing to have you back. Where’s that box of kleenex again?

It’s raining MP Transformers up in here – Masterpiece ain’t dead

Masterpiece Beast Wars Megatron MP-43

Large and in charge my credit card right nAAAOWSSQ!!

You know those days when nothing seems to go right? I was having one of those today. It had to do with some intense machinery that wasn’t working right and then the wind picked up and it started raining. The sun was out and by God, the rain was coming down in sheets. Nothing was going my way and defeated, I trudged through the misery back to my home and began another project when low and behold, my phone that I had been neglecting was lighting up with bursts of activity. It was then my disdain of the rain turned to lusting after t.

Cordon bleu!

There is apparently a hobby show currently under way in Japan. How new events like this come by year after year that I’ve never heard of still boggles me… but from the Shizuoka Hobby Show, the flood gates were opened. Not one, not two but FOUR new masterpiece releases were unleashed this day.

So after months of tight-lips regarding Transformers Masterpiece, it’s a relief to know it’s still kicking, even if it’s full of repaints and beasts. I do my best to not look a gift horse in the mouth though, and enjoy it as it comes. One heaping spoonful of rain at a time.

Footage of Transformer toy assembly and production in Veitnam – how Transformers are made

Ok, so it’s been almost 2 months since I said I’d be updating more frequently, but I don’t want to just post fluff.

I’ve been doing some deep diving into some topics and I came across this hardly viewed (as of this post less than 1000 views) videos from a company in Vietnam that is assembling some The Last Knight and Robots in Disguise series Transformers! This footage is awesome for those that have been wondering how the process works.

No, transformers are not completely manufactured by machines. Actual people do the assembly.  The parts are far too delicate and difficult to assemble for complete automation.

I must say, the factory looks very well-kept, clean, and modern!  I’d love to take a walk on the production floor! Specifically you can see The Last Knight Leader Optimus Prime and deluxe Squeeks being assembled along a conveyor with dozens if not hundreds of assembly line workers.  See for yourself!

The channel is named GTF Group HK.  It’s been a few months since they’ve posted anything new, but let’s hope for more!

Welcome 2018!

Greetings Collecticons.

I wanted to take this time to make a quick note on this New Years Day, a day that over 10 years ago got me started on setting up this website.  It was always meant to be more than just a blog where one could very sporadically spout off about Transformers at large. I want to make a personal pledge to write at least one or more posts per week for the month of January.

I have plenty of interesting stuff to share like the current relocation of my MISB collection, explaining the teachings of #binlife, and generally showing off some of the cooler pieces I acquired over the past year(s).

I also want to take this time to reflect on all of the awesome people I’ve met and gotten closer to this year within our fandom, local and beyond. Thank you for making me proud to be a Transfan. It is very easy to remain isolated in this hobby, and isolation is definitely not something to strive for.

May we all aspire to enjoy a Transformers Party like the one pictured below.

Here’s to a great 2018, and keep on collecting!

Announcing #binlife

binlife or die MF's!

This is how you #binlife!

Have you spoken today with your benevolent lord and savior, The Great Bin?

Let me tell you about his greatness: He giveth the sanctity of life for our beloved collectibles, never taketh. The confines of his walls support eternal youth and will forever protect the contents within. The Great Bin’s light shines radiant for all those that partake in his blessings, ever shall we bask in his grace.

I have read the word of The Great Bin for years, without even knowing I was following its teachings. How else is a Collecticon supposed to traverse the path of life with his Transformers staying minty fresh over the years? I selected by bins carefully, meticulously, in order to compose that greatest amount of storage possible.  I now am in possession of many, many bins, and the treasures within are a sigh to behold. Yes, his bin-ness smiles upon me and grants me many blessings.

I am his follower and disciple, and this is #binlife.

Have a happy holiday oh followers of The Great Bin!
