The first Generation 1 Shattered Glass figures – G1 SG Soundwave & Blaster + cassettes!

transformers shattered glass blaster and soundwave

Ehobby sets the TFCC straight!

It was bound to happen someday: the collector club got their grubby mits on some classic Generation 1 transformer molds. I never would’ve guessed that it would take teaming up with E-hobby to make such a thing become reality. We finally got a glimpse of the finished figures today and they look pretty awesome, if not completely wacky. What’s up Slugfest mold!? Where ya been, man??

I for one am excited for this set, mostly for the Soundwave half, but a giant black Blaster is kind of cool too. Maybe this makes up for all the hate that SG Soundwave received from this year’s Botcon set? No? Well, you a-holes are never satisfied so suck it.

Exclusive Shattered Glass G1 transformers from Japan

Yellow guy not included!

The big question here is what’s the price going to be? Consider the facts:

  1. This set is an exclusive set expected to be availble in the USA and Japan (so there’s going to be a large number of them made)
  2. It is a rather large set that includes two large G1 figures and 4 cassetticons
  3. Encore Twincast and Soundblaster were each released somewhere around the $65 pricepoint
  4. It’s being release by the Transformer Collector Club (so tack on about 25% more cost there for whatever reason)

I estimate the price of this set to be between $175-$225 + shipping.  So it’s gonnnnnna cost ya!  But man, bring on the Shattered Glass G1 Optimus Prime!!!!!

Sellling some serious shit on Ebay for $.99- Botcon 2012, Shattered Glass, and more!

Transformers Collector club Over Run runamuck

What a pretty little package

Just thought I’d let you all now that I am doing a big sell-off of various Botcon toys, mostly 2012, but some old gems as well. Everything started at $.99 so get watching this stuff!

In case you couldn’t tell… Fall of Cybertron Jazz and Sideswipe are remolds

Transformers Fall of Cybertron Sideswipe and Jazz

Don'tcha'll pull a fast one on me, ya hear?

I knew something wasn’t right when I saw Fall of Cybertron Sideswipe during the Hasbro panel at Botcon. It wasn’t completely obvious, but it is true: Sideswipe is a remold of Jazz with a huge ass gun instead of a pea-shooter.

So maybe before you start praising Sideswipe, make sure you weren’t one of the FOC Jazz haters, mmm kay?

Post Botcon 2012 predictions and thoughts – Cybertroncon Asia exclusives not so exclusive

Transformers G1 Hoist Cybertroncon reveal

This just in from 2012 Cybertroncon - Asia-only right? I'm calling bullshit brigade on that one.

So Botcon 2012 has come and gone and with it some surprising revelations. The most important of these I am listing below in no particular order:

  • Transformers Collector Club subscription service starting soon with 6 exclusive figures available in the initial roll out.  This subscription service is expected to replace the usual 1 or 2 club exclusive figures that are available each year.  This will make for all intents and purposes a second boxed set of toys for fans and members of the TFCC.
  • Transformers Generations will induct a new voyager class starting with War for Cybertron Soundwave, later being repainted to Soundblaster.  It can be expected that this is the size class for the all but confirmed Fall of Cybertron Grimlock figure to rival the giant Bruticus.  We might even see a reinvented Megatron or Optimus Prime in this size class.
  • All the drama and fan rage over the mixmatched War for Cybertron Bruticus figures can be put to bed after the more video-game accurate paint-scheme will be available as a San Diego Comic Con exclusive set.  Also showing up at SDCC is the Zombie Cliffjumper figure that seemingly vanished after the reveal at Botcon 2011.
  • MP10 will be released at Toys R Us with all accessories and a new paint job.  The only question now is the price
  • All the Cybertroncon Asia-market-only exclusives revealed a few months ago may not be as exclusive as everyone feared, however there was no official mention of this in any panels.  More below…

So after the Hasbro panel, I visited the display box where the employees were setting up the new figures.  There is a lock box at the bottom of the display where all the toys are kept prior to being revealed.  The staff had to do this while everyone was ganged around the front of the case.  I, however, mulled around in the back and caught glimpse of something that shocked me: a small green G1 legion-class Hoist.  It was right there, plain as day.  One was in robot mode, the other in vehicle.  The female Hasbro staff then rolled it back into a sheet of bubble wrap and placed it back in the bottom of the case while the other staff member prepared Airachnid for display.  I didn’t have time to take a photograph and there were too many people in the way, but it was there.

This is what I saw, and that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it

G1 Hoist as a cyberverse or legion class figure was revealed months earlier in mock-up stage (check the image up top) and during those reveals, everyone in the USA cringed or cried at the thought of all those toys being exclusive to Asia, requiring import prices.  Well guess what guys?  It’s time to wake up and realize that some if not all of those toys will be seen in the USA at some point.  Hasbro has enough trouble producing a full toyline at all, let a lone two toylines concurrently that would be cut off from larger sales numbers by being sold in the USA.

Botcon 2012 Customizing Class Day 1 – Shattered Glass Longarm / Shockwave is awesome

Botcon 2012 Custom class Shattered Glass Longarm head jazz

So purple, so refinded.

For the past few years, Botcon has offered the elusive Custom Class. I have been lucky enough to attend the class over the past two years and have reaped some incredibly benefits, like selling my Animated Minerva for an insane bag of cash. I won’t be selling this year’s figure though, oh no. I was able to create the very cool and clever Shattered Glass Longarm, which is a sort of bizarro classic-ized animated Shockwave.

So dark, so scary... so awesome!

I collect Shockwave figures, and indicated by the comically similar custom Shockblast I bought earlier this year. I cannot wait to photograph the two figures together.

The bag of plastic parts that all attendees of the class start with. There is a long road ahead of us!

Shawn Tessman and his crew outdid themselves this year with two custom parts – a resin Shockwave head and an arm gun. The parts came in white and purple versions with most people preferring the white, which was a little easier to paint.

Botcon 2012 custom class parts resin shockwave head gun arm

These were the two possible custom parts that came with your custom figure. Both are resin piece, one a white set and the other a purple. The Purple gun arm was somewhat transluscent, but very rough.

When I first heard of Shattered Glass Longarm during my hungover stupor enroute to the hotel, I thought “WTF IS THIS CRAP!?” But then I realized the catch that it was just a roundabout way to make a Classics Shockwave, and I was very very pleased. Not only does Shockwave have a history with Jazz molds, this was a way to bring some canon from Animated back into the forefront. Longarm was the alternate persona for Animated Shockwave, the Decepticon spy. Now in the shattered Glass Universe, the tables have turned. Longarm is the evil Autobot posing as Shockwave, the benevolent Decepticon. He is also in the alternate persona’s colorscheme instead of his own, which would’ve been a sort of black, teal and gray. I love it.

This puts the arm in Shattered Glass Longarm

This figure was incredibly difficult to put together due to somewhat confusing instructions, and some last-minute changes at the factory in regard to the screws used to assemble the chest and hood to the body. Screws were replaced with pins, causing some headaches for everyone involved. I personally messed up about five times and had to disassemble the same parts over and over again. I broke for lunch to get a breather.

Botcon 2012 Custom Class artwork and official prototype

These are the official samples we were supposed to work from. Of course, it's your figure so you can paint it however you choose, but this example was quite good and I stuck to it as best as I could.

Problems aside, the figures turned out awesome. Everyone’s is a little different, and you get lots of choices in regards to how you want to display it. Gun arm? Longarm head? Shockwave head? Vehicle mode?

Time to put his foot down

I expect these figures to reach an inflated value of around $1500-$2000 based on the popularity of Shockwave. Do not forget that the number of figures is doubled this year to 120 versus last year’s 60. My friend’s was already up to $900 24 hours after completing the toy. Yikes!

Botcon 2012 customizing class

They upped the attendance from 30 to 60 this year. Too bad the mold was unexpectedly difficult to assemble.

It's coming to life!!! Just needs da head!

In closing, the custom class is still one of the best events at Botcon. Some suggestions for next year would be perhaps 3 cyberverse-sized figures that are easier to assemble so that time can be focused on painting. I want to extend my thanks to the staff that put on this event and hope to see you again next year!!!

Botcon 2012 is upon us – what will the custom class figure be?

In 72 measley hours, I’ll be on my way to Dallas to enter the customizing class for Wednesday.  Let’s hope this year’s figure is as cool as last year’s.

Speaking of, who could this year’s figure be?!?

Considering the box set figures, the only sensible options are below:

G2 Prime mold – The big one here would be Nemesis Prime, but that would just be too cool for school.  Perhaps Toxitron (BLAAARG), or a non-shattered glass Ultra Magnus?  Not sure if Funpub has access to the old head since the box set figure has a new one…

RTS Tracks mold – Black tracks makes a lot of sense for this year’s class…  Not sure where it would fit in with the fiction but the mold seems simple enough for a customizing class to handle.  Then there is the fact that the Wheeljack mold was used twice already for the club exclusives…

RTS Jazz mold – A friend of mine thinks this is a shoe-in for the custom figure.  This is definitely possible, as it could be a non-shattered glass Treadshot in the maroon Armada Treadshot colors.  This would also make for a very auspicious SG Ricochet, which would be paying homage to the original Shattered glass set.  No one cares about the bullshit Ricochet character, so let’s hope that’s not what the figure actually is.

Thunderwing mold -The mold is so simple, I could see this being the custom figure.  There would be a lot of paint apps involved though.  Who could this guy be?  I have no clues because I hate Pretenders and just forget they existed.

Universe Ironhide mold – Lots of options here.  A black ironhide for Shattered Glass Ironhide, same with Ratchet possibly.  Also Soundblaster if we were able to use the head from the set, or just a straight up blue Soundwave.

There you have it.  Expect tons of videos and documentation of the event from yours truly come mid-next week!

Blog Dear Hasbro...

Hasbro takes a stand against their fans and customers – all the while KREO is full steam ahead

Kreo Optimus Prime is copyright infringement

Heads up Hasbro, you guys rip shit off too!

Botcon 2012 is shaping up to be the biggest clusterfuck in the entire history of the franchise.  Hasbro seems to have been putting increasing pressure on the operations of the convention to impede the spread of 3rd party product as well as work they consider to be intellectual property infringement.  This has been an ongoing battle for the past 5 years and apparently someone finally got the memo.  Unfortunately, instead of attacking the individuals behind the actual knock-off toys, they are now going after the fans which have helped to perpetuate the Transformers brand long before Michael Bay ever said “Megawho?”

Today an announcement came declaring that all fan-art can no longer be sold at Botcon.  The convention has had a history of individuals selling limited runs of posters, statues, customs, you name it.  Unfortunately, this looks to be something they want to end at the official convention.  Boo hoo to the would-be artists.

This is certainly within Hasbro’s legal jurisdiction, considering it is an official convention.  The problem is that many are now looking at the non-official conventions that seem to be sprouting up all over the country.

All the while, Hasbro will most surely have their KREO figures on display at the show.  Something is very wrong here.

“Voice of a Generation” charity t-shirt available Tuesday April 3rd at RIPT Apparel – Peter Cullen meets Superman

Peter Cullen charity t-shirt from RIPT Apparel

It's bird, it's a plan, no, it's a TRUCK!!!!!

Now this is something special. Artist Ninjaink is teaming up with good old RIPT Apparel to bring this fantastic parody tee to life, JUST IN TIME FOR BOTCON!  The design is a familiar sight to most comic fans, a powerfully posed suited man ripping open his shirt to reveal… a red truck?  That’s right, not the familiar “S” logo you might be used to but a gleaming red Generation 1 Optimus Prime cab.  And who is brandishing this windowed chest?  None other than the voice behind the legend, Mr. Peter Cullen.

This is an incredibly unique t-shirt design that even has Cullen’s blessing (according to RIPT).  The shirt is only $10 and will be sold Tuesday April 3rd starting at Midnight CST.  On top of that, Ninjaink is donating his artist portion of the sale to the Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Rhode Island, and RIPT is following suit by matching that donation.  Sounds like a good cause to me!

If you’re planning to attend Botcon 2012, this might be a shirt you’ll wanna get ahold of.  So far, there is no definite announcement that Cullen will attend the convention, but he hasn’t missed one for a few years.  This might be a great item to get signed by the man himself…

Shattered Glass Ultra Magnus from Botcon 2012 boxset – He gave Prime his face!

Botcon 2012 Shattered Glass Ultra Magnus toy

Diacloooooone!!!! Well, sort of.

Yay, a clear look at Botcon 2012 Ultra Magnus, a REAL CLEAR look at his clear face!!!! Ultra Ghostnus! From what I can gather, Shattered Glass Ultra Magnus is some sort of cross-over with G2 laser Optimus Prime and Bludgeon. I get that from the box art I suppose, but it’s really anyone’s guess until we get the comic that goes with this peculiar set.

Public outcry is, as expected, at a whiny fever pitch (myself included) and most of the distaste comes from the head, which if you look closely, is another remold. That’s quite a few heads we’ve gotten so far this year! Woo hoo! You can’t say that Fun Publications didn’t give it their all this year, at least from a production standpoint.

Shattered Glass Ultra Magnus head face clear

Just to get a taste of what fans are saying, here is one of the more heated comments I’ve seen:

wtf is up with the tribal bullshit! i’ll say it. its fuckin lame/stupid, what is this?… some “just got into college” shattered Ultra magnus that got drunk after a weezer concert in florida and tatooed is hood like a dumbass. WTF! Jesus! WTF!

So there you have it. We don’t like tribal bullshit on our toys. Or Zartan heads.

Here is an updated look at Magnus’ head thanks to Botcon
