Botcon 2013 registration up and the curse of Michael Crutchfield

Apparently Fun Publications still hasn’t spent ‘the big bucks’ on softare that works.

So the news today is that Botcon 2013 registration went up around 3:30 PM CST.

COOL! Right?

Well actually, you might want to log in and check your records because multiple users are reporting that their information has been replaced by what you see above.  Poor old Mr. Crutchfield from Detroit.  Is it possible that he was the first to successfully check out of the online registration for this year’s Botcon celebration? Could there just be a glitch?

You know, I think this might be time to really think about WHY and HOW these kind of major fuck ups occur every year regarding the online registration for Botcon.  The delays, the mistakes, the credit card fraud from last year (how this company remained operating after that near-criminal escapade is beyond me)… is it just bad luck?  Did Ravage cross someone on the staff’s path?

When you are pulling in nearly $200,000 in registration fees, toy orders, and merchandise you need to get your fucking shit together and hire a real 3rd party company with a track record to create your website and software.  There is no excuse.  This is why I’m not going to Botcon 2013, and this is why I have turned my back on ‘the Transformers Fan Club.”

First look at Botcon 2013 Machine Wars Thundercracker

He’s big green motha from outer space and he’s bad

In an ‘announcement’ far less interesting than even the latest Botcon 2013 giftset reveals, we have pretty definite proof that a Machine Wars Thundercracker will be an add-on or the attendee figure for Botcon 2013. The character art was revealed on the embroidered hat for this year’s convention.  Who actually buys that stuff anyway?

Too bad I won’t be there to find out because this year’s Botcon is no longer on my list of “trips that are anywhere near worth the money.”

A bunch of cool dudes

I thought I’d share some more eye-candy now that I’ve transformed them. Enjoy!

Shattered Glass Drift is lame

TFCC Runabout and Shattered Glass Drift arrive pretty quick – Good job Funpub!

Vampire cars!

Lookie what arrived! The super-fast shipping of Fun Publications got these really nice exclusives to my door much quicker than expected. Runabout is looking hot and the Drift is cool, if you give a rats about Drift. Haven’t transformed them yet, but I thought I’d prove that the figures are actually arriving! Score one for Funpub, but just one! 😉

The inserts are mighty-fine too.

Botcon 2012 beckons… yeee haw! – Back to Texas to search for oil

heading to Botcon 2012 Decepticons in Dallas

Decepti-Does Dallas

We finally learned the locale and schedule for Botcon 2012 after much stress and agony. The damage amounts to Dallas, Texas (a little close to home, huh Funpub?) and it appears that this year we’ll have a relatively early con in April, versus the more typical June or July dates.

I think it’s inevitable that I am going to this thing every year after committing to Pasadena last year, plus I have found myself mysteriously in the midst of an amazing group of unlikely Transformers friends. The excitement is surely building though, as indicated by this anonymous post regarding the upcoming convention:

Guys (and gal), I’m totally getting a half-chub thinking about BotCon again. Please join me in this e-Boner.

Anony-tron, consider yourself join-ed.

Series of three – Guessing the Botcon 2011 giftset theme

Botcon 2011 theme in Transformers series of 3

Spin the wheel, see what we get!

From the official Botcon twitter yesterday:

Just realized SO many stories and/or TF continuities (as a whole) were told in installments/seasons of 3… Well, get ready for Season 3.5!

So this could mean a few different things and probably debunks both of my theories of a Car Robots / Robots In Disguise theme or a straight Beast Wars Set. It is true that many Transformers series came in “seasons of three.”

  • Transformers Generation 1 – 3 seasons (let’s just say the 3 episodes of “season 4” do not apply here)
  • Beast Wars – 3 seasons
  • Unicron Trilogy – Armada, Cybertron, and Energon all consist of their own season and a continuation of the same story with relatively the same characters
  • Animated – 3 seasons and a ill-fated fourth season
  • Transformers films – 3 movies = 3 seasons

My estimation is that we’ll get a mixed set of new characters from each different TF universe.  It would be nice to see some more classic-ized Unicron Trilogy toys much like the Hot Shot figure but I am not holding my breath.  Apparently we will know the truth as soon as the Collector Club Magazine starts hitting mailboxes around the country.

Blog Dear Hasbro...

Dear Hasbro – GET OFF YOUR ASS

Knock off Henkei exclusive seekers Ghost Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp

No one would try to pass on these knock-offs as the real thing, of course not... These are Henkei Exclusive seeker knock-offs, NOT the real thing! These are available for purchase RIGHT NOW!

We know, we’ve heard it time and time again: You don’t like the fact that other companies are knocking off your figures, but there is little that you can do about it. Bummer

It’s ok, you’re a big company. You sell billions of dollars worth of toys to millions of boys and girls all over the world. You can’t really be expected to worry about some small factory in Asia knocking off every single one of your toys and turning a small profit.

As someone who has invested a small fortune into this hobby, I am fed up. If there was something I could do, I would do it!

I think it’s going to take the knock-offs crossing into the Botcon exclusives realm to actually get a legal response. When pre-production copies of the Transformers Collector Club figures find their way to Ebay, Fun Pub has the auctions removed. I bring up Botcon figures because that is what is next on the horizon: the Botcon sets are next to be ko’d.

What else is on the horizon? Well here’s a nasty list of rumored knock-off figures coming out way from the land of the Great Wall:

  • G1 Black Zarak
  • All 4 G1 Autobot Dino Cassettes
  • G1 Abominus
  • Botcon 2007 set
  • Botcon 2008 Shattered Glass Rodimus Prime

I understand supply and demand just fine, but these KO’s are messing with the supply and will in turn destroy the price.  Sure, everyone wants a chance to own the dino cassettes, but they are CRAPPY figures.  The only reason they are notable is their rarity and once you take that away, the legend is erased forever.

Transformers Headmaster Knock off Giftset

As cool as I must admit this set is, this has obliterated the value of any of these little relics for the Transformers collector market

These knock-off Henkei Seekers above are problems for TakaraTomy, and not necessarily Hasbro.  It does just show how widespread this problem is getting.  Even iGear seems to be getting away with Cybertronian murder, and all this stuff is plain as day PUBLICLY AVAILABLE!  Hey Hasbro, if you’ve had troubled finding the source, I’d love to help you.  I actually own about two dozen factory-made prototypes of YOUR products.  Wouldn’t you like to know how I get this stuff?  I’d be happy to tell you if it means you can put some sort of stop to the knock-off game.

Hey, if you are too busy to plug the holes in your ship then fine.  I’m just gonna jump right off and cash in my collection now instead of later.  I expect to see plenty of other long-time collectors following suit.

Totally legal, TOTALLY!

The Juice is Loose!

Botcon has been pulling auctions for any pre-release Botcon 2010 figures this year. This has become a pretty common occurrence and keeps the lid tightly sealed on just what we will be seeing at the convention this year. However, this has left plenty of room for speculation…

Amidst the Botcon crew’s best efforst, these valuable little plastic guys still get out into the wild. With stuff appearing on Taobao now, language barriers are going to be keeping figures that shouldn’t be available hot on the market.

Botcon 2010 Yellow Shattered Glass Hound and White SG Ravage

Botcon 2010 SG Ravage and Hound

I so should've seen this coming...

ARg! Not even 24-hours since I posted by list of Botcon 2010 predictions does a new photograph surface which refutes almost all of it! Instead of the Shattered Glass figure being an Evac/Galvatron like I predicted, instead the happy joy-joy white version of Ravage comes with a yellow SG Hound!

This should’ve been more than obvious given the fact that Shatter Glass Ravage is the club’s favorite character, and even has his own Twitter account!  Blast you!

Now the question is whether this is the attendee exclusive or part of a 2-pack.  I am putting my money on a two-pack.

The images were found on Chinese auction site Taobao, which is apparently the new place to find stuff before you’re supposed to get it.

EDIT: The yellow hound is most likley Generation 2 Turbomaster Scorch and not the Shatter Glass Hound I originally guessed.
