G2 Menasor appears on Taobao with ALL ACCESSORIES – listed for $30,000

g2-menasor-head-taobao

The world’s most valuable accessories, all in one place!

I love the Generation 2 unreleased toys saga and it continues today with another historic offering featuring components of G2 Menasor and the Stunticons.  This time, however, the listing features ALL of the components for a hefty $30,000 price tag.  The last time firepower of this magnitude dropped, the sale went for around $26,000 and hilarity ensued.  The important aspect of that auction was that the purple Menasor head was missing.

Well this time the gang’s all here and it’s on Taobao.  The listing can be found here. I’ve included some of the auction photos for the inevitable time when this auction ends or is pulled.

So are you going to be the ‘lucky’ buyer?

Are these authentic or has the ko market finally created a G2 version of the classics?  Your guess is as good as mine.

Lucky Draw Protoform Starscream is mine. Thank Japan!

transformers-Gold-lucky-draw-protoform-starscream-movie

Worth its weight in gold… literally

I just wanted to drop in after an extended absence to report that I have found a grail in Japan during my trip.  The day after my birthday, I was able to snag this very rare lucky draw movie 1 figure that has eluded me for years since it’s initial release.  Originally one showed up on Ebay by the enigmatic TF seller Hydra.  I did not win the auction since it was purchased outright and it’s burned me ever since!  Now I can happily say it is mine.  A little bit out of my intended price range, but there supposedly only five of these and it was pretty much my birthday present so… justified, I think?

More coming from my Japan trip as soon as I get decent internet!  The struggle is real Collecticons!

Transformers Encore 23 is Fortress Maximus :-O

Generation 1 Fortress Maximus toy

Ohhhhh baby!

I’m speechless.

I head over to BBTS today and see that they have a new listing for Kababy Fort Max. “That’s strange…” I think to myself. Then I realize that holy hell, it is not the kabaya but a flesh and plastic reissue of Fortress Maximus!

My mind is kind of messed up about this.  As a long-time owner of an original Fort Max that I worked an allowance up for 5 months to get at age 6, I feel this is not quite fair.  However, there is an extreme lack of Fort Max’s in the world, and now this will be a chance for everyone to get him.

Will aftermarket prices plummet?  Will you be shamed if you had just bought an original for $1000?

Chances are that this version will include many new tampographs in the place of stickers and hopefully some other little goodies or details that were not on the original.  This of course helps us differentiate from the original 20+ year old version.  Regardless of how I feel about the re-release of one of the fandom’s most holy grails, I pre-ordered one.

Oh yeah, also MP-15 is a Rumble & Ravage set that we already knew was coming.

G2 Sandstorm and G2 Night Attack Starscream prototypes discovered amidst ancient relics in China, now on Taobao for a shitload of money

Transformers Generation 2 Sandstorm prototype found in China

"Hello, is it me you are looking for?"

Years ago, a bunch of rare Transformers artwork was put up for sale by a dealer who found a huge bulk of it from a few Hasbro employees. Pieces included original box art, the original air brushed autobot and decepticon symbols, back of box art, you name it! Also included was production artwork for never-before-seen Generation 2 figures including a purple Sludge, Black Starscream, and a desert-camo themed Ramjet. These were apparently scrapped like many other figures from the line and thought to have never made it past the employee-created custom mock-up phase. However yesterday, history was rewritten!

Generation 2 Black Starscream artwork

Why didn't I buy this when I had the chance?!? Oh right, I was a college grad and I didn't have any god damn money to waste.

Apparently someone searching the great pyramids of China stumbled upon a treasure greater than any ancient aliens theorist could’ve imagined – prototypes of some of the un-released G2 figures!!! These include a real G2 Sandstorm, a black prototype of G2 Starscream, a spray-painted mock-up of G2 Sandstorm and some boring G2 Stunticons. Pff, like those are worth anything…

Black Death or Night Attack Starscream?

Whomever is selling these relics ain’t no dummy either. With prices like 10,000 and 20,000 Yuan, we are talking well over $1000 USD for either of these prize items. It’s taking everything in my being to stop from purchasing that G2 Black Starscream… only time will tell.

Too legit to quit

So with great discoveries like this, who knows what may still be out there? Purple Sludges? Skywarps with purple missiles and nose cones? BLUE BLUESTREAKS?!?! Keep your eyes peeled Collecticons, Unicorns are still out there.

Is 25th Anniversary Amazon Unicron going to be rare or not?

25th Anniversary Unicron toy

Check out that sweet CG render!

Today marks a new beginning in Transformers exclusives.  For the first time, Hasbro has sold an exclusive Transformer though a new online retailer, and not just anyone, the biggest one.  Amazon.com is the proud owner of our latest version of the big guy, Unicron.

I’d been predicting a US release of the remolded Unicron head for some time now, and had kind of forgotten about it until Botcon 2011 where the sale through Amazon was revealed. So what does this mean?

Historically, Hasbro has used brick and mortar retailers to release exclusive product through.  We are talking about stores like Target, Toys-R-Us, Walmart, K-mart, and even Walgreens.  These stores are given an edge against another store by receiving a certain toy that will only be available at their stores.  It’s kind of a little ‘thank you’ from Hasbro for carrying their product so heavily and prominently.

Offering such a large exclusive like Unicron to Amazon could have far-reaching effects.  Toys R Us sold a version of Unicron as an exclusive a few years ago and it underperformed, becoming a giant shelf-warmer.  The difference here is that this Unicron features a G1-ish paint scheme and the wonderful Japanese resculpt of the head.  This one is actually sometime people want.

It’s been a bit of a roller-coaster the past few days though.  Amazon sold out of Unicro quickly, leaving many potential customers banging their heads against their keyboards and screaming “Scalper!!!” to no end.  However, this morning the figure was put back in stock, then sold out again, and now as I write this, is currently available.

(If you want to check if this guy is in stock, do it by clicking here!)

Unicron planet

I'm hungraaaay!

So is this thing going to be hard to get or raise in price?  With Amazon’s repeated restocking, it seems like they can make Unicrons like Lays makes Doritos (“Don’t worry, we’ll make more!”)

It’s really hard to gauge, but my spidey-senses tell me that this is Unicron, this guy is big, and he is always awesome.  This Unicron will hold its value, maybe even more than the Japanese version.  With all these versions of Unicron coming out, people are going to start wanting to collect him specifically, which increases the demand.  All I can say is I bought more than one!  Good luck Collecticons.

Closer look at Animated Voyager Thundercracker for sale by Deceptigtar

Animated Voyager THundercracker blue robot

Strike a pose, let's get to it

Deceptigar, who is selling the Animated Voyager Thundercracker on Ebay currently, has supplied me with some awesome pictures of the figure. He does not want to transform it since he is selling it and the dollar value is high. That seeker mold does have some misgivings…

The auction has risen to over $1000 but has stayed at that level for a few days now. With over 100 watchers and 19 bids, this thing might go insane-o in the last hour. Hold onto your butts!

G1 Transformers Starscream piggy bank!

Got it!

Even with the promotion by TFW2005.com I was able to snag this for a decent price. It’s a little taller than a G1 figure.

Blog Dear Hasbro...

Dear Hasbro – GET OFF YOUR ASS

Knock off Henkei exclusive seekers Ghost Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp

No one would try to pass on these knock-offs as the real thing, of course not... These are Henkei Exclusive seeker knock-offs, NOT the real thing! These are available for purchase RIGHT NOW!

Dear Hasbro – WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING OVER THERE?

We know, we’ve heard it time and time again: You don’t like the fact that other companies are knocking off your figures, but there is little that you can do about it. Bummer

It’s ok, you’re a big company. You sell billions of dollars worth of toys to millions of boys and girls all over the world. You can’t really be expected to worry about some small factory in Asia knocking off every single one of your toys and turning a small profit.

As someone who has invested a small fortune into this hobby, I am fed up. If there was something I could do, I would do it!

I think it’s going to take the knock-offs crossing into the Botcon exclusives realm to actually get a legal response. When pre-production copies of the Transformers Collector Club figures find their way to Ebay, Fun Pub has the auctions removed. I bring up Botcon figures because that is what is next on the horizon: the Botcon sets are next to be ko’d.

What else is on the horizon? Well here’s a nasty list of rumored knock-off figures coming out way from the land of the Great Wall:

  • G1 Black Zarak
  • All 4 G1 Autobot Dino Cassettes
  • G1 Abominus
  • Botcon 2007 set
  • Botcon 2008 Shattered Glass Rodimus Prime

I understand supply and demand just fine, but these KO’s are messing with the supply and will in turn destroy the price.  Sure, everyone wants a chance to own the dino cassettes, but they are CRAPPY figures.  The only reason they are notable is their rarity and once you take that away, the legend is erased forever.

Transformers Headmaster Knock off Giftset

As cool as I must admit this set is, this has obliterated the value of any of these little relics for the Transformers collector market

These knock-off Henkei Seekers above are problems for TakaraTomy, and not necessarily Hasbro.  It does just show how widespread this problem is getting.  Even iGear seems to be getting away with Cybertronian murder, and all this stuff is plain as day PUBLICLY AVAILABLE!  Hey Hasbro, if you’ve had troubled finding the source, I’d love to help you.  I actually own about two dozen factory-made prototypes of YOUR products.  Wouldn’t you like to know how I get this stuff?  I’d be happy to tell you if it means you can put some sort of stop to the knock-off game.

Hey, if you are too busy to plug the holes in your ship then fine.  I’m just gonna jump right off and cash in my collection now instead of later.  I expect to see plenty of other long-time collectors following suit.
