Masterpiece 15 to be redeco of MP-10 Optimus Prime – Nemesis Prime, Ultra Magnus, or worse…

MP-15 Masterpiece Nemesis Prime Ultra Magnus

The ad-hoc predictions of the new Masterpiece line being full of Optimus and Starscream repaints may not have been so far off base after all...

Straight outta Compton, we get the first solicitation of our next Masterpiece figure. MP-15, the Prime redeco.

So clearly we have an Optimus Prime silhouette here and the easy choice is a straight repaint of Prime.  This could go many ways, the most likely of which being Nemesis Prime.  Originally it was thought that the new MP-10 design was made in order to accommodate an Ultra Magnus car carrier trailer, something that fans have been begging for since the release of MP-2.  This solicitation is still very new and has been noticeably cropped, so perhaps there is more coming than is pictured.

Ultra Magnus armor connect to MP-10 Optimus Prime

This is a proposed fan-mode for the possible connection to a masterpiece set of Ultra Magnus armor.

My spidey-senses tell me this will be a black repaint version of Black Convoy in the MP-10 mold.  If this premonition comes to pass, the real questions is this: Autobot or Decepticon?  Whatever the answer, the world weeps.

Although this may not be the re-imagined version of Ultra Magnus for the Masterpiece line, it does not exclude the possibility of one coming.  Perhaps another big number like MP-20 will be the armored Magnus reveal?  Seriously though, the remake of Optimus for the Masterpiece line is only excusable if in fact it was done to accommodate Magnus armor.  There is no other non-evil explanation!  It seems every other day I find a new reason to stop collecting… please don’t make this be another.

TakaraTomy steps it up – Transformers United Stepper exclusive WITH targetmaster!

Transformers United Stepper

Looks like we got another slick repaint coming our way courtesy of Million Publishing and their lovely Transformers Generations books. We are getting the only proper redeco of the incredibly successful Generations Jazz mold. To top it all off, this dude is coming with his own Targetmaster! Yowza! This one’s gonna be hot.

Alternity Thundercracker

TakaraTomy announce Transformers Alternity Thundercracker

Wow, big surprise there!

In the biggest ‘no shit’ moment of the year thus far, TFsource has revealed the first image of Alternity Thundercracker to round out the Decepticon threesome.  Although the image above is simply an official digibash of the Alternity Skywarp product shots (check out the reflection!), we can expect the final product to looks pretty close to this.

Expect this figure to be released in October – November 2010.

Masterpiece Optimus Prime is Dead for 2010

Transformers 2010 Sleep mode Convoy

Um, I think something is missing here...

In what I would call the biggest “what the fuck” moment of the year thus far, TakaraTomy has launched a new website dedicated to Transformers 2010 aptly titled Welcome to 2010.

Optimus Prime dies

You can poke around the site yourself for a while, but the major thing of note is a new product available specifically for the 2010 year tie-in, a new redeco of Masterpiece Convoy named MP-4S SLEEP MODE CONVOY.  This is a rendition of the Masterpiece Convoy mold colored to look like Optimus Prime’s big death scene from the Transformers Animated Movie.

So where do I begin?

As cool as this repaint kind of is, we just got a Masterpiece Black Convoy that was pretty pricey just a few months ago.  Not only that, this is the MP4 mold that includes that giant trailer!  Now that doesn’t even make sense.  If this is a dead version of Optimus Prime, why the hell does he have a trailer?  It seems only logical to have swapped the Black Convoy and Sleep Mode Convoy concepts to each other’s toy mold.  I’m sure Black Convoy would benefit more from a nice meaty trailer than a dead husk of a robot would.  That trailer is going to increase the price of this expectedly pricey figure more than $100! If you thought MP-8X was expensive at $250, expect this package to roll in around $350 or more.

Transformers 2010 Sleep Mode Convoy Megatron accessories

Dead robots need dead accessories too

There are a few kind of cool things to talk about though.  The Megatron accessory comes in reformat transluscent purple.  This however makes me wonder if we are going to see our first repaint of Masterpiece Megatron in transluscent plastic…  At this point anything is possible.  This is all I’ve got in the “good” department.

We were told TakaraTomy had some amazing things planned for the Masterpiece line in 2010.  If this is it, I’m completely let down.  I will put down some cold hard cash for some crazy figures.  I’ve defended the release of King Grimlock more than a few times.  The announcement of Masterpiece Ghost Starscream had me kind of uneasy, and I am a huge Starscream nut.  Sleep Mode Convoy however, might be the first nail in the coffin for the Masterpiece line.

This figure will be the 4th redeco we have seen in the Masterpiece line since the last new mold, Masterpiece Grimlock.  This could indicate that all-new molds are on the way for 2010, or it could mean that we should expect even more repaints.  Like I said, Masterpiece Megatron has not been under the TakaraTomy nip-and-tuck scalpel yet so it is only a matter of time.

TakaraTomy Welcome to Transformers 2010 products page

Just what is going to fill up those other 3 slots?

There are some slivers of hope though.  Apparently Rodimus’s flame paint scheme is integral to the design of this website.  This may be a less than subtle hint that at what we can expect the next Masterpiece mold to be.  If this prediction ends up to be true, the 2010 Masterpiece figures could completely redeem TakaraTomy from their over-priced exclusive Masterpiece redecos. I am about ready to throw in the masterpiece towel unless we hear some amazing news soon.

Oh, and to all those Convoy collectors out there, sorry dudes.

Mysterious Blue Classics Bumblebee

Blue Classics Bumblebee found on ACtoys

So just who are you?

Stop the presses, a new Classics Bumblebee redeco has surfaced? TFW2005.com is reporting that these images were found on ACtoys.

My first instinct was to call this a Botcon toy, but there is no G2 symbol on it. Also, there is chrome on the shins, just like the Henkei Bumblebee. This guy is also SCREAMING knock-off, but something is tugging me towards it being official…

Perhaps it is the fact that the original version of Bumblebee in Microchange came in a beautiful creamy blue, just like this specimen. If you check out this glorious article from TF-1, you will see a little bit about the history of this amazing little blue bee.

Mysterious Blue Classics Bumblebee

He's all grown up now!

This kind of sparks my interest because what if TakaraTomy is planning some sort of retro-PRE-TF homage line? That would be amazing because as it turns out, Botcon chose not to do a commemorative line for their next boxset. Also, with Diaclone being originally launched in 1980, this would be the 30th anniversary of the toyline… We all know how those Japanese love their anniversary toys!!!
