Hasbro Masterpiece Sunstorm – Fast Food seeker

Would you like fries with that?

TFW2005 user jru42287 posted a screenshot of what is expected to be the final deco of the upcoming Masterpiece Sunstorm release from Hasbro.  Results are, shall we say, underwhelming?  In a very drastic departure from the TakaraTomy Japanese release, we have a lot of unexpected white and red in the figure, instead of the more orange deco many were expecting.

The figure will feature the MP-12 mold, just like Masterpiece Thundercracker.  Although hard to see, there are some flame details along the front of the wings.

So just who is art directing over at Hasbro?  Is this meant to be part of the thrilling 30?  More like squirty thirty.

Flight Dunny chase reveals – It’s Thundercracker and Skywarp

kid robot dunny flight chase thunder cracker

Seeker time!

As it turns out, the chases are indeed Thundercracker and Skywarp.  I was lucky enough to nab a Thundercracker in my 3 pack I got in store this morning at Rotofugi.  I also snagged some photos of the Starscream version with some of his more Transformers brethren.

G2 Sandstorm and G2 Night Attack Starscream prototypes discovered amidst ancient relics in China, now on Taobao for a shitload of money

Transformers Generation 2 Sandstorm prototype found in China

"Hello, is it me you are looking for?"

Years ago, a bunch of rare Transformers artwork was put up for sale by a dealer who found a huge bulk of it from a few Hasbro employees. Pieces included original box art, the original air brushed autobot and decepticon symbols, back of box art, you name it! Also included was production artwork for never-before-seen Generation 2 figures including a purple Sludge, Black Starscream, and a desert-camo themed Ramjet. These were apparently scrapped like many other figures from the line and thought to have never made it past the employee-created custom mock-up phase. However yesterday, history was rewritten!

Generation 2 Black Starscream artwork

Why didn't I buy this when I had the chance?!? Oh right, I was a college grad and I didn't have any god damn money to waste.

Apparently someone searching the great pyramids of China stumbled upon a treasure greater than any ancient aliens theorist could’ve imagined – prototypes of some of the un-released G2 figures!!! These include a real G2 Sandstorm, a black prototype of G2 Starscream, a spray-painted mock-up of G2 Sandstorm and some boring G2 Stunticons. Pff, like those are worth anything…

Black Death or Night Attack Starscream?

Whomever is selling these relics ain’t no dummy either. With prices like 10,000 and 20,000 Yuan, we are talking well over $1000 USD for either of these prize items. It’s taking everything in my being to stop from purchasing that G2 Black Starscream… only time will tell.

Too legit to quit

So with great discoveries like this, who knows what may still be out there? Purple Sludges? Skywarps with purple missiles and nose cones? BLUE BLUESTREAKS?!?! Keep your eyes peeled Collecticons, Unicorns are still out there.

I'm not saying it's aliens...

MP-11 is a new seeker mold – Masterpiece Coronation Starscream with cape, crown, and new parts

Transformers Masterpiece 11 Coronation Starscream

Lorda-mercy!

Dear lord, the entire Masterpiece line appears to be gaining a reboot! This figure apparently has a bunch of remolded parts, hopefully fixing the issues with the hanging kibble. It will also be a sort of Coronation Starscream version. It’s funny because the first Masterpiece figure was the Prime mold, followed by the seeker mold… so what’s next? We clearly do not need a new Grimlock or Rodimus… but Megatron? Could MP12 be a new Megatron? Let us not worry about such things for now. Just cast your eyes upon the image above.

So how do you feel now that you’ve purchased your stupid KO seekers from iGear? Huh? Not going to fit in the collection so well now, will it? Feel the shame.

End of The Seeker Wars – Generations 3 Thundercracker

Hasbro Generations Thundercracker

It's going to be a blue St. Patrick's Day

I suppose you all have been waiting long enough and I guess the heathens can now have their Thundercracker too. I rather like the dark blue of the final toy. I thought it was going to be more of an icy hue.

And with that, an era of Transformers has finally ended to let a new one begin. The Great Seeker Wars have finally, truly, been won.

Infestation Nation – The Autobots dance Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”

Autobots dance Michael Jackon's Triller

And not a single 'f' was given that day

I have to share one of the funnest and well-animated videos I’ve seen in a long time, especially as it relates to Transformers. Someone in Japan apparently decided to successfully mimic Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” with a team of elite Autobots bustin’ a move. It is seriously awesome and made my otherwise crappy week. See the video below, it’s even in HD! (Link to video)

Here are the credits from the video.  Of note is the “Alan Smithy” name, which is a common surname for people that want to be disassociated with a film or video project!  Too bad, because this is an awesome production!  I can’t even imagine why someone would not want full credit for this.

Credits as seen in the video

Some details about the video:

  • IDW’s Transformers universe is present with Drift and Perceptor’s eye-piece
  • Ultra Magnus is beside himself!  Armored and an unarmored version are present
  • Rodimus is in the lead of the dance, with Optimus as just a back-up dancer!
  • Armada Seekers and G1 seekers appear in the video

So yeah, check it out, it’s worth a watch and it currently has less than 1000 views…  FIRST!

Yellow Classics Sunstorm Knockoff from KOtoys.com – better than you were expecting!

Knockoff classics sunstorm from KOtoys.com

And I was pissed I bought this at first!

I just received my Yellow Sunstorm from KOtoys along with the purple seeker squad. I was really upset that I bought this mere hours before the orange more G1-accurate Classics Sunstorm was announced for sale.

However, now that I have it in hand, I must say it’s pretty incredible. The CHMS versions of this mold are much, much better than KOtoy’s own efforts to recreate these guys. I still hate knock-offs, but some of these I feel less guilty about purchasing than others.

As always with KOtoys.com, I must stress you are buying at your own risk. This order turned out great though but I’ll still be picking styrofoam out of my office desk carpet for weeks.

Starscream Tetrajet cartoon model and more cool stuff from the origins of the G1 Transformers cartoon

Transformers G1 Cybertronian seeker animation model for Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp!

Whoa, we never saw Starscream as a Cybertronian Tetrajet before!

It doesn’t get much cooler than THIS, folks!  More incredible thought-to-be-lost-forever documents are coming out from the very early origins of the Transformers Generation 1 cartoon and movie development.  Jim Sorenson continues to deliver on some awesome materials won from Ron Friedman’s private stash.  We now have a look at some of the original Sunbow Transformers bibles that helped determine the look, feel, art style and characterization of our beloved childhood friends.  THIS IS WHERE IT ALL STARTED!  Check out some of the original names of characters like Trailbreaker as Guzzle and Cliffjumper as Blow Out.  Incredible!

It just blows my mind that somewhere through the creative process, decisions were made for the better or worse that 25+ years later, we are still reveling in.  Who would’ve thought that Cliffjumper would be a better name than Blow Out?  Luckily someone made what we now feel to be the right call, but who knows?  Maybe we’d be saying the opposite about Cliffjumper had the name Blow Out actually been chosen.  We’ll never know!  Now enjoy a look at what Starscream was intended to look like as a tetrajet!

The G1 seekers tetrajet models in color!

This is at least close to what we could've expected to see G1 Starscream's Cybertronian mode look like.
