Unreleased ROTF / HFTD “Megatron Rising” giftset figure

“I’m so rare no one even knew I existed until today!”

Well well well.  Thanks to my old pal Blue Boost for nefariously sneaking a photo of our private little Megatron treasure into a TFw2005 news post yesterday. He’s stirred the pot and now would-be movie collectors are salivating over his unreleased ROTF Voyager Megatron from the ill-fated “Megatron Rising” giftset.  I decided to share this photo of my version, which has been actually out on my table recently amongst other Megatrons.

Bask in the glory of what could’ve been. Officially, the giftset was revealed at SDCC 2010 but none of the giftsets saw the light of day, except Ravage infiltration giftset which did appear in the UK in limited numbers.

Getting ahold of figures like this is no laughing matter. You usually get one chance and you must strike immediately. Boost and I got these off of Ebay from a seller than typically has sample toys. Apparently this giftset was very near final production before it was pulled.  Perhaps a warehouse does exist full of packaged pieces… we may never know!

More like Megatron falling… amirite?

Strange enough, while writing this quick article I found a place online that has listings for this Megatron (sold out) as well as the individual legends class constructicons. The red scrapper in particular is interesting.  But are $235 per legend, they may be the most expensive legends of all time!  Happy hunting Collecticons.

G2 Sandstorm and G2 Night Attack Starscream prototypes discovered amidst ancient relics in China, now on Taobao for a shitload of money

Transformers Generation 2 Sandstorm prototype found in China

"Hello, is it me you are looking for?"

Years ago, a bunch of rare Transformers artwork was put up for sale by a dealer who found a huge bulk of it from a few Hasbro employees. Pieces included original box art, the original air brushed autobot and decepticon symbols, back of box art, you name it! Also included was production artwork for never-before-seen Generation 2 figures including a purple Sludge, Black Starscream, and a desert-camo themed Ramjet. These were apparently scrapped like many other figures from the line and thought to have never made it past the employee-created custom mock-up phase. However yesterday, history was rewritten!

Generation 2 Black Starscream artwork

Why didn't I buy this when I had the chance?!? Oh right, I was a college grad and I didn't have any god damn money to waste.

Apparently someone searching the great pyramids of China stumbled upon a treasure greater than any ancient aliens theorist could’ve imagined – prototypes of some of the un-released G2 figures!!! These include a real G2 Sandstorm, a black prototype of G2 Starscream, a spray-painted mock-up of G2 Sandstorm and some boring G2 Stunticons. Pff, like those are worth anything…

Black Death or Night Attack Starscream?

Whomever is selling these relics ain’t no dummy either. With prices like 10,000 and 20,000 Yuan, we are talking well over $1000 USD for either of these prize items. It’s taking everything in my being to stop from purchasing that G2 Black Starscream… only time will tell.

Transformers Generation 2 Prototype seekers copyright stamps

Too legit to quit

So with great discoveries like this, who knows what may still be out there? Purple Sludges? Skywarps with purple missiles and nose cones? BLUE BLUESTREAKS?!?! Keep your eyes peeled Collecticons, Unicorns are still out there.

I'm not saying it's aliens...

Closer look at Animated Voyager Thundercracker for sale by Deceptigtar

Animated Voyager THundercracker blue robot

Strike a pose, let's get to it

Deceptigar, who is selling the Animated Voyager Thundercracker on Ebay currently, has supplied me with some awesome pictures of the figure. He does not want to transform it since he is selling it and the dollar value is high. That seeker mold does have some misgivings…

Stick 'em up Autobots!

The auction has risen to over $1000 but has stayed at that level for a few days now. With over 100 watchers and 19 bids, this thing might go insane-o in the last hour. Hold onto your butts!

Unreleased Animated Thundercracker for sale on Ebay!

Animated Thundercracker toy unreleased

You're gonna make the old boys blue!

Has Deceptigtar gone absolutely mad? He is selling his almost one-of-a-kind Animated Thundercracker on Ebay! I don’t know what to say, but with Botcon 2011 concentrating on Animated, no one’s collection will be fully complete without this unreleased gem. TakaraTomy didn’t even make their own version of this guy, but they got Blackout!? What gives! Check out the auction and be sure to bite your nails as the price sky-rockets!

Unicron the mythical unicorn – Further unreleased G1 Chaosbringer information and pics

Generation 1 Unicron prototype head in planet mode

Peek-a-boo!

With the relatively recent release of TakaraTomy 2010 Universal Dominator Unicron, a new rush of Unicron-love has swept the fandom.  Although I was unable to touch upon this much in my review, Armada Unicron was actually not the first time the demi-god had been given a plastic effigy.  At least three iterations of Unicron had been conceived all the way to the hardcopy / testshot phase to ultimately never reach mass-production.  According to a fantastic find by Japanese Transformer collector and ultra-seller Hydra of The AllSpark, there were in fact two different versions of the unreleased G1 Unicron toy designed and fabricated.  The first was deemed “too small” by Hasbro and so back to the drawing board went the designer to increase the size.  This could perhaps make sense of the two different photos floating around of the finished design.  After some digging, it makes perfect sense according to this hacked together size comparison from an article on The Mechanical Maniacs.

Unicron size comparison

Who knew BW neo Unicron was so tiny?

So apparently, the “green bodied” G1 Unicron was a completely different design from the larger orange version. I have often heard that the green one is considered the Japanese prototype vs. the orange USA prototype. In reality, it appears that the green version was the first draft, followed by the orange one that Hasbro still has in their possession. It is also surmised that there have been multiple copies of this toy created as evidenced by the Unicron display at Botcon 2009 contained more than one of the figure in pristine condition.

And guess what – not all of those copies of the toy are owned by Hasbro!  For the first time, I am sharing these photographs publicly.  I’m not even sure where I got them anymore but the photos were taken sometime after 2003 as evidenced by the shirt in the photographs.  I do not claim owenership of these, but since I will currently be the only source on the net to have them I’ll be watermarking them and blurring out the identity.  If anyone wants to step forward and give me some more info about these, I’d love to get it.  Privacy will be protected if requested.

All in all, I highly suggest checking out Hydra’s article for some incredible information that continues to dazzle.  Dare I say I’d still like to see the original toy released??  Shame on me… BEHOLD – Unicron!

The missing Dreamwave Transformers endings – Age of Wrath and Energon conclusions to be revealed by Simon Furman

Transformers The War Within - Age of Wrath - unreleased comic book covers

Well at least we have an inkling that Mr. Prime was coming back

Not all great mysteries in the world of Transformers and collecting have to do with the toys. Take the incomplete works of Dreamwave, which folded out of the blue back in 2004 after 3 great years of Transformeriffic bliss. When the doors closed, locked behind it were the conclusions to Transformers Ongoing, War Within: Age of Wrath, and Energon. These comics had been receiving mixed reviews at the time, but anyone following along was anxiously awaiting to see exactly how the Quintessons would betray Megatron in War Within, see if the dark husk of Unicron would return to life, and watch the antics of Gnaw and Wheelie begin in the Ongoing series.

After over five years of waiting, Transformers scholar Simon Furman is ready to blow the lid off! He is going to finally reveal his plans for where Energon and Age of Wrath were going to go and end. Check out his blog now to get glimpse of what was in the works for Energon and stay tuned for more — much more!

Generation 2 ATB Megatron snags over $3500 – again!

Transformers Generation 2 Unrelease ATB MEgatron and Starscream on Yahoo Japan

Shiver me timbers!

I made a special note to wake up today. Not for my job interview, but instead to make sure I put my final bid in on a special rare item I recently found on Yahoo Japan. The alarm buzzed but I paid no heed, until I woke up to find what the alarm was for: I had missed the end time for a MIB Generation 2 ATB Megatron on Yahoo Japan!

If I were ever to get a decent price on this guy, snagging it under the radar from Yahoo Japan was my chance, but I had missed it! I rushed to my fancy new laptop and checked the auction as my heart sank. The auction had indeed ended. I scrolled down and my grief dissipated. The end price was 332,300 Yen! That’s over $3500 USD! Now I don’t feel so bad for missing the bid because there was no way I was bidding that high!

I will probably never add this special piece to my Starscream collection, for even this Collecticon has his limits. Congrats to whomever was the lucky buyer though!

Price check – Unreleased Backtrack sells for $91!

Transformers Movie scout Backtrack Robot Mode

Yo I'm worth my weight in gold!

Wow! I just sold one of my unreleased MISB Transformers movie 1 scouts for $91 on Ebay!

I knew these would be valuable to the right person – that person being someone that wants to own every packaged Movie 1 figure.  Looks like I was the benefactor of an Ebay bidding war which is exactly why I always list my items as auctions and not buy-it-nows.  More about this in the future, but for now I have another auction up for a MISB Decepticon Reverb.  The possibilities are endless!  Good luck to all bidders!

ATB Megatron and Starscream on Ebay – $5,500

Generation 2 Unreleased ATB Megatron and Starscream

It could be yours for $5,000

With Botcon 2010 revealing their Generation 2 themed boxset over the past few weeks, a lot of focus on Generation 2 figures and lore has been popping up. It really came to a head today when Deceptigtar showed me this auction for the very rare G2 ATB Megatron and Starscream set.

I have been trying to get my hands on one of these for a few years and two of them have slipped through my fingers during that time.  Now we have one publicly listed on Ebay for a whopping $5,500.

I don’t think I need to tell anyone that the price is absolutely ridiculous.  It also brings up a topic I’ve been wanting to cover for the past week or so: what is the most expensive Transformer ever, or even more specifically, is any Transformer worth more than $2000?

My reasonable offer was declined from the seller automatically, so the seller apparently believes his asking price is appropriate.  in the end, he price is set by what someone is willing to pay for it.  So Collecticons, are any of you willing to fork over $5,500 for some plastic parts in a sealed box?

Oh, it’s also nice to see that the seller isn’t expecting to inflate shipping charges on your $5,5000 purchase – it’s only $9 UPS!  HOW THOUGHTFUL!!

Lost and Found: Transformers Movie 1 Backtrack, Gunbarrel, and Decepticon Reverb

Unreleased Transformers Movie 1 basics Reverb, Gunbarrel, and Backtrack

What once was lost is now found - the 3 unreleased Movie 1 Basics PACKAGED!

Remember when I told you it was Unicorn mating season?  Looks like the stork arrived!

I have finally finished my complete MISB Movie 1 collection!!!  I knew these figures existed somewhere out there and now I have them!  Maybe I can actually take a full group shot of the entire line of toys now.  In case you didn’t know, there were 3 basic class figures that didn’t make it to the end of the first Transformers movie toyline, even though they were announced.  It was two repains of the Energon Bruticus limbs as well as a repaint of Cybertron Lugnutz and Hightail.

I’ll get back to this but for now, bask in the glory of what has taken more than 2 years to acquire!
