G2 Menasor appears on Taobao with ALL ACCESSORIES – listed for $30,000

g2-menasor-head-taobao

The world’s most valuable accessories, all in one place!

I love the Generation 2 unreleased toys saga and it continues today with another historic offering featuring components of G2 Menasor and the Stunticons.  This time, however, the listing features ALL of the components for a hefty $30,000 price tag.  The last time firepower of this magnitude dropped, the sale went for around $26,000 and hilarity ensued.  The important aspect of that auction was that the purple Menasor head was missing.

Well this time the gang’s all here and it’s on Taobao.  The listing can be found here. I’ve included some of the auction photos for the inevitable time when this auction ends or is pulled.

So are you going to be the ‘lucky’ buyer?

Are these authentic or has the ko market finally created a G2 version of the classics?  Your guess is as good as mine.

Combiner Wars Titan Class Devastator finally leaks 12 days before US reveal – Looks dope!

Transformers-Titan-Class-Devastator_nuremburg-toyfair

Is that a crane on your shoulder or are you just glad to see me? Schwing!

As much as Seibertron tried to get the major scoop, 4chan wins again and various sites have since posted the full photograph of Transformer G1 Combiners Wars Titan Class Devastator from the Nuremberg Toy Fair.  After typing that sentence, I have to ask if the amount titles we have to supply any given figure these days really shakes my faith in this hobby.

This guy is looking, well, better than I expected!  I think there is a bit of mis-transformation here but I like what I am seeing.  The poseability looks great, the proportions appear sound except for the rather small head, and the colors are exactly what we have been yearning for in a modern Devastator.

I wouldn’t go so far as to beg for quality individual modes for the pieces of Devastator, but the combined mode is standing up to the hype.  Just for fun… let’s give a look at what some redecos of this figure could look like.

The Transformers Robots in Disguise 2015 Decepticons look awesome

transformers-RID-2015-decepticons-cartoon

Some of the most unique-looking characters I’ve seen in Transformers for decades… ok, 3 decades to be exact.

Check out the still frames above to see some fun creature-based Decepticons the likes of which we haven’t seen before.  This is definitely an premutation of the TF Movie trend of ‘monsterizing’ the Decepticons to further solidify their places as the villains of the story.  But here we have some really unique things going on.  The monstrous Decepticons are just their regular form, much like Ravage or Ratbat from the Generation 1 series.  They still change into vehicles like submarines and cars!  This is great!  Anthropomorphic Decepticons!  My personal favorite is Thunderhoof who just looks like a stoic and cunny adversary that may end up the right-hand man of series villain Steeljaw.

I’ve heard some static about the Decepticons in this series, but I am loving them for a few reasons:

  1. They all seem to be brand new characters.  I don’t see a Megatron, Starscream, or Soundwave anywhere!  Yay for new blood!
  2. They still look like Decepticons.  The color schemes, their general aesthetic, and their demeanor all point right to the side of darkness that we’ve all come to love.
  3. There are TONS of them!  It definitely seems like the cartoon is reverting back to the ‘monster of the week’ type of story-telling but it has worked in the past.  Here’s hoping for tons of toy versions of these guys.

So yeah, that’s it.  Can’t wait to see more of these Decepticons in action.  End of story.

Meet all the robot vehicles of Transformers 4

Transformers 4 is filming as we speak! Another two year stretch of Transformers madness is upon us, and this time, it seems some interested parties have learned a thing or two. Most of the information about the film has been coming directly from Michael Bay’s website. I applaud this effort, and the photos coming from set have kept much to be determined about the plot points.

With the reveal of the new Bumblebee car, we have apparently exhausted allt he pretty vehicle product shots for this movie. The cast looks to be our biggest yet, with over 10 confirmed new transforming vehicles. Have you met them all yet? If not, feast your eyes on the complete (as of now) robot cast of Transformers 4.

Transformers Ani-con 2008 Hong Kong Autobot & Decepticon box sets – TFTM holy grail

Transformers hong kong decepticon giftset

My precious!!!!!

Last year I was on a wild goose chase through the annals of TFW trying to hunt down a very rare and obscure set of boxsets from China – The Transformers Movie Ani-con 2008 Autobot and Decepticon Premium boxset. These were a very short release and each boxset featured a nice spread of figures from the first Transformers Movie. Most of the figures inside were premium versions of the Hasbro releases including Leader Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Jazz, Ironhide, and the standard Ratchet release. The Decepticons included all premium versions of Megatron, Starscream, Blackout, Barricade, and the regular release of Brawl. None of the figures in these sets were extremely notable, it was instead the uniqueness of the packaging which drew my eye.

Cool foil-stamped and embossed packages

I found someone on the TFW2005 boards offering to sell the Decepticon set and I freaked out. It was one of those situations where no one immediately knew what the set was and if I swooped in quick enough, I may snag these gems at a lower-than-expected price point. My ambition got the better of me though after I struck a deal and swiftly paid the seller via Paypal gift, never to receive the packages.

They are beautiful as a set!

Long story short, I got screwed out of a good chunk of money, one of my worst losses in Transformers collecting history. Moral of that story? Be more cautious when you find very rare items you think may never find again – there’s always another chance.

My second chance came as a complete surprise when my good friend Deceptigtar surprised me out of the blue with a brand spankin’ new Autobot boxset!!

Transformers Autobot Giftset from Movie 1

Best friend ever!!!!!!!!

One of the more notable things about this set is the nicely embossed outer shell and the gift certificate featuring artwork by none other than PAT LEE?? Yes, post Dreamwave, Pat Lee was comissioned for some artwork specifically for this certificate of authenticity. What’s also strange is that it features the OLD head of Movie Megatron. A bizarre sight indeed.

Transformers Movie giftset certificate of authenticity drawn by Pat Lee

All kinds of crazy

Although Deceptigtar wrangled in both of the boxsets, he is of course keeping the Decepticon one. This just means that I shall live to fight another day and continue my search for the Decepticon version. That item is literally the last piece of my Movie 1 collection I need before I have it all, barring Lucky Draws. Trust me, that shit takes up a LOT of space…

Daddy long legs Decepticon gets a name – Transformers DOTM Devcon

Transformers dark of the moon devcon

Not the Devcon you remember

I was watching my Transformers Trilogy blu-ray set (which is awesome!) yesterday and flipped through the DOTM special features. In it are a bunch of stills featuring new production art from the film. One of the most notable images was that of the large spider-like Decepticon featured once or twice in the Chicago scenes of Dark of the Moon. The working name for this elusive Decepticon is Devcon, who used to be an Autobot in the G1 mythos.

Anyway I just thought it was cool and one more mystery solved!

Fall of Cybertron combining Bruticus – the iron fist of Hasbro silences the land

Fall of Cybertron Bruticus on screen

"And our prayers were answered by fists of steel and rain of blood..."

Today was a day where the mighty returned and the weak were silenced. Today was a day where wrongs were made right and a solidarity that has been fragmented for years was made whole again. Today was the day that the true king to the throne returned and that king is a company named Hasbro.

Let’s get a bit more realistic now and explain what happened this week in Transformerland. This year (it’s only been one month long so far!) has been one of the most insane years to be a Transformer fan since the movies started in 2005. Let us list the notable events, shall we?

  • We’ve already weathered through the madness of registering for Botcon
  • Tolerated Funpub’s dismal track record with a webstore they’ve only had, well, about 5 years to perfect
  • Discovered rather shockingly that Transformers Prime contains a rather large multitude of toys that we were kept very successfully in the dark about (jolly show, Hasbro secret service, jolly show)
  • Discovered even more shockingly that all the fabulous, and expectantly readily available First Edition Prime toys were to become exceedingly desirable and hard to find, especially in the USA
  • SDCC will featured another GI JOE / Transformers crossover, this time with a Shockwave-styled Hiss Tank

It’s already been a topsy-turvy year and without going into begrudging detail about the Transformers Prime toy fiasco, let’s just set the stage to a world where everyone is feeling a bit frustrated and disappointed. Put yourself on that stage, and then feel yourself get nailed by a giant cream pie of surprise. Hasbro just knocked everyone’s socks off with the announcement of a figure no one dared dream would become a reality – a fully formed gestalt figure the way it was meant to be done. Five (supposedly) deluxe individually transforming figures that include minimal extra parts or internal connections. There is not a ton of data other than what was discovered in the latest issue of Game Informer, but it’s enough to drop any current transfan to their Primus worshiping knees.

Fall of Cybertron Bruticus revealed

Bruticus! Bruticus! Bruticus!

Beyond the excitement, what does this all mean? Well I couldn’t call myself a Collecticon if I didn’t figure this shit out for you so here goes.

– Some say that these 5 figures are what remains of the supposed 8 figure count for the Fall of Cybertron line, as reported at the UK Toyfair. While possible, to me this seems unlikely due to a weighted consistency of Decepticons amongst the ranks. We are likely to see Grimlock, maybe Jetfire, Ironhide or Ratchet, and with any luck, some seekers. They didn’t just re-design Megatron for nothing, either.

– Another question is whether these will be sold individually or as a large set. The answer? Who fucking cares. You’re going to buy them so move on.

– Is this really happening? After what feels like a prison riot full of 3rd party companies doing “everything that Hasbro won’t”, did the giant just stir in its sleep? It sure seems like it to me. Like always, Hasbro follows through but not in the 3 day timeframe that the Transfan manbabies decree. Enjoy your shoddy-plastic 3rd party Devastators boys, they will all be made obsolete soon. And that, my fellow Collecticons, is a fact.

Megatron ‘gets off’ on Robot Chicken – Transformer toys return to TV!

You really can’t beat it when Transformers are featured on Robot Chicken. This latest clip shows Megatron firing his weapon via some decently conventional yet obscene methods. God I love this shit.
