MTMTE ends, Lost Light begins!

rung-mtmte55-collecticon

I just thought it was time for me to fess up and say that pretty much every major prediction I made this year for Transformers comics was wrong as fuck.  Don’t listen to me. Especially if you listen to Seibertron.com‘s Mainframes Podcast where all we discuss is this comic.

MP-25 = Masterpiece Megatron 2? All signs point to yes

Yessssss…

You can bet your ass this is happening.  Thanks Golditron!

MP13 will be a remold of MP12 – probably Breakdown

Transformers MP13 Masterpiece

Not such a big surprise afterall

A bunch of hoopla is spreading in Transformerland due to the typical spooky Japanese methods of teasing new figures. We see a black silhouette of an upcoming toy with no size indication or explanation.

If you look closely, the profile very closely resembles that of the newly revealed MP12 Sideswipe prototype, minus the giant shoulder cannon. My guess is this is a remolded Decepticon version of MP12 as Breakdown. Simple as that.

Botcon 2012 Gigatron / Overlord revealed! – Bludgeon mold with new head sculpt

Botcon 2012 Overlord

And this is why I didn't want to make a solid guess on the mold - insane!

As I was hoping, Overlord is the first figure to be revealed for this year’s Botcon 2012 boxset!  Wow!  What a surprise!  It’s in the ROTF Bludgeon mold, which is the first movieverse mold to ever be used as a Botcon exclusive.  Some say that ROTF Bludgeon is not really part of the movie universe, but it is, so there.  What could this mean for the rest of these figures?  Metalhawk as Terradive?  Oh dear me, the game just changed!

Dark of the Moon G1 Chronicles giftsets finally revealed

Transformers Dark of the moon chronicles

About dang time!

At long last, we get a glimpse at the G1 / Dark of the Moon Chronicles giftsets including a G1 version and a Dark of the Moon version of both Optimus Prime and Megatron. I made some predictions on what these toys actually were last month.  Let’s see how those held up…

Transformers Dark of the Moon Chronicles Megatron

Mega mega mega!

Megatron Set:
Redeco of G1 Megatron with a DOTM Voyager redeco. G1 Megatron will include the Japanese accessories included in the first G1 Megatron, however not the scope and barrel stock.

Transformers Dark of the Moon chronicles Optimus Prime set

No G1 trailer in sight!

Optimus Set:
Redeco of G1 Optimus Prime with a DOTM Deluxe redecoG1 Optimus will not include his G1 trailer and roller, etc, but the Deluxe version of Optimus will include a brand new trailer, mech tech weapon, and the trailer will fit on G1 Optimus some how.

Well I wasn’t too off. I apparently guessed the Optimus Set to a ‘T’, as long as these photographs are any indication. The curious thing is that there is once again new version of megatron being displayed in photograph form with a matte plastic like the original Takara release. The toy shown has the Goodbye Megatron set Chrome that US fans are used to on their G1 Megatrons. Until we see one of these packaged in the box, the truth is still up for grabs. At least we finally got to see SOMETHING though!

Transformers 3 Ferrari is Mirage! Son of a bitch!

Transformers 3 Ferrari is Mirage

This of course makes all sorts of stupid sense. >:-(

You have got to be kidding me! The Ferrari is Mirage, NOT HOT ROD!  What a huge let down.  Alright, well let’s see some nice toys at least.  Check out the robot mode below.

Series of three – Guessing the Botcon 2011 giftset theme

Botcon 2011 theme in Transformers series of 3

Spin the wheel, see what we get!

From the official Botcon twitter yesterday:

Just realized SO many stories and/or TF continuities (as a whole) were told in installments/seasons of 3… Well, get ready for Season 3.5!

So this could mean a few different things and probably debunks both of my theories of a Car Robots / Robots In Disguise theme or a straight Beast Wars Set. It is true that many Transformers series came in “seasons of three.”

  • Transformers Generation 1 – 3 seasons (let’s just say the 3 episodes of “season 4” do not apply here)
  • Beast Wars – 3 seasons
  • Unicron Trilogy – Armada, Cybertron, and Energon all consist of their own season and a continuation of the same story with relatively the same characters
  • Animated – 3 seasons and a ill-fated fourth season
  • Transformers films – 3 movies = 3 seasons

My estimation is that we’ll get a mixed set of new characters from each different TF universe.  It would be nice to see some more classic-ized Unicron Trilogy toys much like the Hot Shot figure but I am not holding my breath.  Apparently we will know the truth as soon as the Collector Club Magazine starts hitting mailboxes around the country.

Botcon 2010 pre-show round-up

Botcon 2010 Double Punch

So THIS is your ultra-class figure after-all!

Some auctions recently appeared on Taobao and were spotted by Seibertron.com. These are apparently some of the as-of-yet-to-be seen Botcon 2010 figures.  According to these, many of my predictions were incorrect, daggnabbit!

So as it currently stands, here is the current line-up of Botcon 2010 Toys:

Giftset-

  • Pyro – voyager – Autobot
  • Clench – voyager – Decepticon
  • Skybyte – deluxe – Predacon
  • Streetstar – deluxe – Autobot
  • Breakdown – deluxe – Decepticon

Attendee sets-

  • Double Punch – ultra – Decepticon
  • Slicer – deluxe – Autobot
  • Rapido – deluxe – Autobot
  • Scorch – deluxe – Autobot & SG Ravage – Heroic Decepticon
  • Gnaw – deluxe – Decepticon / Predacon

And that, as they say, is that.  The Gnaw figure is expected to appear in a troop building set of three figures, much like last year’s sweeps.  The only Shattered Glass figure we will be getting is the lovable white Ravage, which incidentally has his own Twitter page!  No word yet on which figure is the attendee freebie, but my guess is either Rapido or Scorch with SG Ravage.  If that is the case, SG Ravage will most likely become a $100-$200 figure within minutes.  Seriously, who doesn’t want that little guy?

Botcon 2010 Yellow Shattered Glass Hound and White SG Ravage

Botcon 2010 SG Ravage and Hound

I so should've seen this coming...

ARg! Not even 24-hours since I posted by list of Botcon 2010 predictions does a new photograph surface which refutes almost all of it! Instead of the Shattered Glass figure being an Evac/Galvatron like I predicted, instead the happy joy-joy white version of Ravage comes with a yellow SG Hound!

This should’ve been more than obvious given the fact that Shatter Glass Ravage is the club’s favorite character, and even has his own Twitter account!  Blast you!

Now the question is whether this is the attendee exclusive or part of a 2-pack.  I am putting my money on a two-pack.

The images were found on Chinese auction site Taobao, which is apparently the new place to find stuff before you’re supposed to get it.

EDIT: The yellow hound is most likley Generation 2 Turbomaster Scorch and not the Shatter Glass Hound I originally guessed.

Silly Hound, don't you know we wanted you to be Swindle?

The Japanese Animated 7-pack… what is it?

TakaraTomy's Animated 7-pack Giftset?

Think this is just a bulk order of each item in individual packaging? Think again.

So we all know that TakaraTomy is finally releasing Transformers Animated in Japan almost two years later. Big whoop. We have seen some photos and promo graphics from the line and it appears that most toys will have a metallic sheen to the paint job, which is in almost complete contrast of the matte vinyl toy look of their Hasbro counterparts. What we haven’t seen yet is the packaging, but if TakaraTomy is being their normal selves then they wouldn’t do any less than give us something completely new, original, and crazy.

Speaking of crazy, has anyone seen the prices on the new figures? The import fees seem to be insane! Well this Collecticon has found out a little bit of behind the scenes information regarding TakaraTomy’s animated toys. According to US retailers, demand is low and the fact that Takara is releasing “everything at once” is creating a lot of uncertainty amongst how well it will actually sell. Usually toylines are released in waves, so that it gives customers and fans a chance to spend a little bit of money at a time and still get figures they want in the long run. This time, TakaraTomy is releasing a whopping 32 figures to start the line!! This is putting a lot of retailers, especially ones in the USA, in a tight spot. If TakaraTomy Animated doesn’t sell well, they could be out a ton of money to start the year.

TakaraTomy Animated Starscream vs BumbleBee Giftset

These snazzy promo shots lead me to believe that we are going to see some really fun packaging when these finally hit shelves!

So what’s the solution?

Buy small quantities and hope you sell them all. This means that if TakaraTomy Animated is a hit, they are going to be VERY hard to get in the USA. Reorders are not likely to be an option and over 30 figures to start means that low numbers of cases are bound to be imported to the USA. It’s not a bad move to be wary of TakaraTomy Animated sales though. It is essentially a complete line of repaints, however it will include some figures that haven’t even seen release here in the USA including Blackout and Arcee.

One more thing… along with individual releases of the figures, a very expensive 7-figure bulk purchase has been made available at online retailers BigBadToyStore and TFsource.  The prices on these orders are quite high at $269.99 and $259.95 respectively.  Typically, one might think that this is just a store-made bulk-item for those that wish to buy the whole first wave of the line.  That is not the “case.”

Apparently, this is a huge item that is the only way to get these items before the launch date of all the additional figures.  TakaraTomy is not allowing retailers to purchase these figures separately until a certain date, but this bulk item is available well before the individual and battle packs.  So it’s difficult to know if this is meant to be some super-crazy 7-pack giftset, or just a especially shaped shipment case of voyagers and deluxes together. It’s not clear what the truth is, but if it actually is a 7-pack, you’ve think we would know about it by now.  If it has actually been kept a secret until now, this is likely to be the most valuable and rare Transformers set to appear on the market in some time.  Time will tell.

***UPDATE

Well TakaraTomy Animated has been released and it turns out that there was NOT a huge 7-pack.  Oh well, you can’t win them all!
